Winter Break Snowmen Oil Pastel Drawings

What will your snowman do this winter break? Learn how to draw a 3-dimensional snowman (or women) and create a fun background or scene for them. In this class you will learn how to shade, blend, and layer oil pastels to create dimension.

Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5

Beginner Level

In this class we will use oil pastels to create a winter scene with one or more snowmen. I will teach the class alternating between a document camera and front facing camera so the kids can see me and the artwork clearly. Step by step directions will be included as we go along. I will help troubleshoot students work individually as we work through the steps by giving them tips and guidance on any missteps they might make. Students will learn how to draw a 3dimensional snowman using overlapping. They will also learn how to create circles, and what a light source is as well as how to use a light source in their artwork. Students will learn how to shade and blend with pastels and different techniques for successful layering. They will also learn how to use the value of the paper to incorporate different shades into their artwork

I am a certified public school art teacher with  17 years of experience in the classroom. I currently teach in a 3-5 grade school but have worked with students of all ages in the past. My students love this project!

- 12 count oil pastels or more - cray-pas expressionist, crayola, faber castell or other known brand recommended. You will need white and blue especially!
