In this popular science class, students will learn facts about the Humpback Whale, found in all primary oceans and seas on Earth. We will explore and compare the habitat, characteristics, diet, family group and conservation status of Humpback Whales. I will be using a presentation created using photo slides and asking interactive questions that will also integrate elements of geography, math and vocabulary into an animal science lesson designed to motivate natural curiosity. 1. Students will learn facts about the physical characteristics of the Humpback Whale such as size, diet, habitat and characteristics. 2. Students will learn how scientists use these characteristics to compare and classify a species like the Humpback Whale. 3. Students will learn why conservation of whales is so important and what is being done to prevent the extinction of all whales. 4. Students will learn new vocabulary words related to the study of the Humpback Whale and the ocean habitat.
Homework Offered
Your child may be interested in learning more facts about Humpback Whales. This is a great science enrichment class for independent or homeschooled learners. A certificate and a Humpback Whale fact, activity and vocabulary sheet will be available for download in the classroom after class.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

There is not a formal assessment for this class, but students will be learning concepts of science along with the opportunity to develop additional math, geography, vocabulary and creative thinking while learning about Humpback Whales.
