Travel the Major Islands of Japan: Studio Ghibli
In this virtual travel class, we will visit famous islands in Japan seen in some of the Studio Ghibli movies. Let's learn about geography, food, landmarks, and analyze how similar and/or different these islands are from each other.
Class Experience
In this one-time virtual tour, we explore parts of Japan that can be seen in movies from Studio Ghibli. First, we will do a quick overview on the movies from Studio Ghibli, what era they came out, what are the themes of the movies. Once we go over the movies, we will guess the types of geography that can be seen in Japan and check it out on Google Earth to see if that is still the case now. Learners will be able to identify the four major islands of Japan, compare and contrast similarities and differences, and articulate how each area may have inspired the movies.
I am originally from Okinawa, Japan and had the privilege to visit a few prefecture growing up. I was also educated in the public school(K-12) in Japan and worked there as an adult. Currently, I am a certified educator for the Japanese Language (K-12) and Social Studies (Secondary level) in the state of PA, VA, and TN in U.S.A.
