Phonemic Awareness is the ability to hear and manipulate the sounds in spoken words and the understanding that spoken words and syllables are made up of sequences of speech sounds (Yopp, 1992; see References). As a former kindergarten teacher and Orton-Gillingham Instructor, I have several years experience working with students utilizing Lively Letters and Orton-Gillingham to develop foundational literacy skills.
