Choose and purchase a Scholastic Book in the Branches, Acorn, or Hello Reader Series. These ongoing tutoring classes will help your learner read the book. The learner will speak in English and answer questions.
Class Experience
These are one-on-one English tutoring sessions. In this ongoing course, students will choose and purchase a book from the Scholastic Branches, Acorn, or Hello Reader Series. The student will practice reading and speaking in English about the book during class. The learner will gain skills in speaking, reading, grammar, and pronunciation. 1. The student will be able to read a book in English. 2. The student will be able to demonstrate comprehension about the book by answering questions about the story. 3. The student will be able to ask questions about the story. 4. The student will learn new English vocabulary through reading. 5. The student will learn new phonics skills through reading. 6. The student will be able to read high frequency words in English by sight. 7. The student will be able to identify basic grammar structures and use them correctly. 8. The student will be able to prepare for the Scholastic Asia Storytellers Competition.
I have been teaching reading to students since 2002. I have been teaching English as a Second Language (ESL / EFL / ENL / ELL) to students online since 2020. I have a BS degree in Elementary Education from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. I am certified in basic and advanced TESOL. I am also certified in TEFL.
Homework Offered
The teacher will provide optional suggestions for homework. The student can read assigned chapters in the book before class to be ready to discuss in the following class.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Assessments will be informal. The teacher will provide written feedback after each class.Grades Offered
The teacher will provide a certificate of completion after every book that is completed in class.
The student must purchase the Scholastic book or books that will be used in class.
The books for this class will only be chosen from the approved book list on the official Outschool page that is dedicated to the Scholastic Asia program.
