Story Time With Munchkin the Mini Horse: Reading Munchkin Celebrates Differences
In this class, students will have the chance to meet Munchkin, the miniature horse with dwarfism. Students will learn about Munchkin through the book "Munchkin Celebrates Differences." Each student will get a chance to talk to Munchkin.
Class Experience
US Grade Preschool - 1
In this special story time experience, Munchkin the miniature horse with dwarfism will be participating live and students will each have the chance to talk to Munchkin. We will read the book "Munchkin Celebrates Difference" pausing to talk about the pictures and vocabulary. Once we are done reading the book, students will get a chance to color and/or write in a Munchkin themed activity booklet while they wait their turn to interact with Munchkin. We will have fun, focus on some vocabulary...
Students will gain a deeper understanding of vocabulary words : celebrate, differences, tall, short, soft, and hard. Students will learn that they can celebrate their differences. Students will also work on their fine motor skills.
Ms. Peters is a Minnesota licensed K-12 special education teacher with 25 years of experience in the field of education. She has been a registered Pet Partners' handler with Munchkin the miniature horse since 2017. One of the ways they have volunteered is by visiting libraries and having children read to Munchkin. Munchkin is also the first horse to visit the Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester, MN.
