For over 15 years now, I have been working as a teacher in mainstream British primary schools (with children aged 4-11). In my role, I have worked with a range of children, from those with additional needs to children who have been classified as gifted and talented. For 10 years, I have been the head of English at two different schools where I have had the responsibility for driving progress and achievement. My focus as a teacher and a leader has always been to help children reach academic excellence through exciting and innovative lessons.

I have taught this poem for many years to year 5 students in England (age 9 and 10) and had no issues but please be aware that: The poem contains images of a character tied up and there are references to death and gunshots. There is a level of threat and danger in the poem. If you are unsure please read a copy of the poem here: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/43187/the-highwayman and please get in touch if you have any questions.
