Craft a Soap Carving of a Penguin or a Polar Bear

US Grade 3 - 6
This is a class all about crafting! Students will spend most of their class working on their soap carving. We will try a few different techniques, so have a paper clip, plastic knife and paint brush ready for class (along with your bar of Ivory soap and print out). While we work I will mention some interesting facts about the polar bear and the penguin as these are the subjects of our carvings. I will also show the students pictures of ice carvings from here in the Canadian Rocky Mountains...

1 file available upon enrollment- bar of soap; a soft bar of soap like Ivory will work best - pencil - paper - scissors - plastic butter knife - paper clip - paintbrush
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Parental guidance may be required when your student is using a knife to carve their soap. A plastic knife works really well (often better that a paring knife) and is recommended.
