Let's celebrate the patriotic Independence Day holiday by studying a classic short story by Tim OBrien through reading comprehension, vocabulary, analysis, and short answer classroom discussion; for 7th, 8th, or 9th, grade students
Let's live...

- Students will strengthen their focus and reading-comprehension skills  
- Students will learn to critically think and pose questions during and after reading a text that help it become more engrossing, educational, and enriching 
- Students will learn how to structure their ideas verbally and communicate when posed with various ideas and perspectives
- Students will learn to analyze nonfiction text and use it to inform a fictional texts

Certification to Teach Secondary Students from the University of Nebraska at Omaha
Endorsement in English/Language Arts from the University of Nebraska at Omaha
ACE Educator
Over 10 years of experience in various educational positions

Homework Offered
- Students will be asked to follow along to the reading of one short story 
- Students will be asked to engage in the video-lesson
- Students should reply to the prompts posed in the video-lessons in at least five sentences
- Students should reply to 1 other student per prompt in at least three sentences
- Depending on reading level, this should take 1 to 2 total hours1 - 2 hours per week outside of class

This is a war story based on the author's experience in the Vietnam war.  Because of this, the story includes:
- Graphic language including F and Sh
- Depictions of war
- A horrific death
These topics will be addressed with maturity and reverence for soldiers who sacrificed their lives
 
The story also includes
- Another mention of death of a friend (outside of war)
- Allusions to desired romance 

These topics will be addressed with maturity and reverence for soldiers who sacrificed their lives
