Rising Star
Learners will use their imaginations to explore numbers in this Waldorf-inspired main lesson block.
Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 2
The beginnings of mathematics-- numerals, numeracy, the quality of number, and the four processes-- will be introduced through movement, storytelling, use of manipulatives, art, and music. This multi-sensory approach makes math com alive and deepens the children's understanding as they see numbers at work in their world. Classes will include mental arithmetic as we go on "number journeys" together, the quality of numbers from whole to parts, learning archetypal number patterns from nature,...
1. Understand qualities of numbers 1 through 10. 2. Recognize and write Arabic and Roman numerals 1-10 3. Count up to 100 as a class 4. Form strong number concepts through games with the senses and movement. 5. Familiarity with the four operations (addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication), their symbols and their usage 6. Familiarize with rhythmic or skip counting 7. Begin memorizing the addition and subtraction tables as part of a "family" 8. Beginning familiarity with multiplication and division
I have been teaching math for over 20 years, both with my own six children and through my Waldorf-inspired homeschool curriculum that I have authored. I have graduate school training in early childhood (0-8) mathematics and numeracy as well as experience teaching in online classrooms, in-person classrooms, and homeschool co-ops.
