Class Experience
In this course, inquiry meets imagination, and science is MAGIC! Young Wizards and Witches are invited to test their powers and harness the amazing properties of the universe in this magic-inspired STEM and science class. No wands required (but certainly encouraged), students are invited to enter a world where science meets sorcery, where magic and technology intertwine, and where young minds become masters of the mystical and scientific arts! In this enchanting course, learners will...
Learners will explore a variety of STEM, STEAM and Science topics in a fun, imaginative environment. Learners will witness and participate in hands-on experiments, projects, and challenges, as well as sharing observations and reflection. This course seeks to make science approachable and interesting for all learners by putting a magical spin on the concepts.
Shiny Happy Kids teachers have been working with students ages 3-18 in a variety of settings, from art schools and STEAM labs to libraries, summer camps, forest school, and even RPG game tables. One thing we all have in common is a dedication to creating safe, positive, inclusive spaces and experiences where kids can connect, experiment, be challenged, share their passions, and just be their wonderful selves. We want you to SHINE! From Miss Alex: I'm so excited to share my love of learning about the world with you! I've been teaching STEAM and Social Studies topics like mythology, art, animals, science and more to preschool through middle school for 8 years through an independent STEAM education company, and for 3+years on Outschool. I'm really looking forward to connecting with you in our magical classroom!

A color printer is required for this course, as weekly printed materials will be provided. Students will keep a "Spell Book" where they will document what they've learned and discovered during our class meetings. Printed pages will be provided that will act as a guide for this journal. You will also need: --a notebook or folder to create your journal --a pencil --coloring and drawing supplies --a glue stick --scissors (please use care, parental discretion requested) --paper --glue --tape (clear and masking) --various additional supplies, which will be posted in the classroom on a weekly basis at least 24 hours prior to the class meeting. These will be primarily household, nature, office, or pantry items that are easy to find, such as baking soda, vinegar, measuring cups, bowls, food coloring, etc.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a STEM/Science class, NOT an actual magic class! Kids who love witches, wizards, spells, nature and science will all enjoy this class. Our goal is to present STEM topics in a fun, unique way that engages the imagination and brings a little magic to our classroom. Due to the nature of science, some experiments may require additional support or supervision from a nearby adult. The instructor will always post in the classroom whether or not an adult is recommended (must remain off camera while assisting). All experiments and activities will be age-appropriate, but you know your child best! Please be available during class time just in case your learner requires assistance that the instructor cannot provide virtually.
