Pre-Algebra with Mr. G.
Bryan Goodman, Veteran Educator
During this 12 week course, students will learn the various concepts taught during many Pre-Algebra classes including number rules, operations, fractions, decimals, percents, exponents, and equations...just to name a few :-)
Class Experience
This is a LIVE, online Pre-Algebra course. Although there are no assigned grades, progress will be monitored throughout. The topics are listed below in the order that the class will be taught. The weeks should remain the same, but there may be some weeks that students more easily grasp concepts (or the opposite) and adjustments can be made. Flexibility is important, as learners may come in with varying skills. During Week 6, I will take one full day to help students reinforce their math...
Teaching math is fun for me. While that's not enough to make me a good teacher, having a passion for helping others sets me apart. See, I'm not just a veteran math teacher, I'm also a graduate school student, who is learning to become a licensed therapist. I look at how and what students learn, but also take into account why they learn it AND how they feel about the process. It allows for great discussions and differentiation.
Homework Offered
HW will be assigned...most times it'll be to finish what we start in class. Checked for correctness--looking at "showing work," for sure1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Informal assessments, such as HW and WS (pdfs, perhaps) Formative assessments (like quizzes) Summative assessment (after Week 6 and during Week 12, there will be TWO--used specifically to assess a combination of skills and concepts) Although they are not required, it would benefit any homeschooled student to complete all assessments. This would provide the instructor with much needed information.Grades Offered
While letter grades will not be consistently offered, qualitative feedback--informing students, parents, and the instructor--will be used throughout.
