In this weekly tutoring class students will strengthen skills in phonics, sight words and writing to improve fluency in reading. Informal assessments will guide our interactive and fun lessons to meet your learner's reading skill needs.
Class Experience
US Grade 1 - 3
Beginner - Intermediate Level
We will be reviewing: vowel sounds, phonics/sounds of letters, fluency/connecting letter sounds, training our tongues to make our sounds, sight words, vocabulary/new words and writing. This class includes "Wiggle Breaks" to get our brains moving, reading circles and fun characters to help us practice our skills. I will teach live sessions which will provide opportunities for modeling and student practice. After each lesson, kids will have a fun reading game to do with their families. Parents...
In this tutoring class students will improve their phonics, fluency, writing and vocabulary skills.
I am a certified teacher with 25 years of experience in the classroom (K-6). My endorsements include Early Childhood, Reading and ELL (English as a Second Language). My professional background includes classroom teaching grades 1-3, several years as an elementary principal and helping over 100 Outschool learners from around the world become more confident and fluent readers. I am most passionate about helping children build a strong phonics foundation. It is my joy to teach children how to read and to share my love of reading. I implement fun strategies to provide lessons that motivate students to become more fluent readers. My philosophy in teaching is to meet learners where they are and to celebrate their successes each step of the way.
Homework Offered
We will be making a "puzzle sentence" during each class that the learner will share and practice with an adult before the next tutoring session.Assessments Offered
Informal assessments are applied during each tutoring session. I will keep parents notified of any modifications being made, and celebrate their learner's growth each week.Grades Offered
Learners will need a bin/box with the following supplies available at each class: white board, 2 white board markers, white board eraser (a sock works), 2 pencils with erasers, ten 3 X 5 cards, 20 sentence strips (3 X 24 inches), child proof scissors, and a slide-lock baggie for each tutoring class.
