With this visual journal, also called junk journals, mixed media art class, you will be introduced to 9 tips and techniques to blend text and visuals together. A collage is a work of art created by bringing flat materials together and layering them, such as magazine images, photographs, text, pattern paper, and more. 9 ways to incorporate text into artwork to create a balance between the text and the visuals. Students will create one page in their visual journal, but will complete the class with knowledge and techniques they can apply to future works of art.
I can't remember not having art in my life. I was raised by an art teacher, got my bachelor's and master's in art education, taught art-focused summer camps, volunteered in art classrooms, and taught high school art for over 12 years. Now I develop art lessons and curriculums for other teachers or homeschool parents to implement in their art classrooms. Used hardback book to work in, magazines, glue, scissors, additional flat materials such as printed pictures, scrapbook paper, and similar they want to collage with. Depending on the technique students want to test out on the how-to guide students should also have magazines, book pages, newspaper, computer/printer, and packaging tape.
Students will control what the subject matter is in their own artwork and I don't show anything that could be upsetting or above a G rating.
I will provide everything students need to reference, although access to Pinterest, YouTube, and similar can be helpful to get ideas.
