Middle School Writing Workshop

Small group writing workshop to will help teens build confidence in their writing and improve writing skills. Students will receive guided instruction throughout the writing process in expository and creative writing pieces.

Course Highlights:

Weekly In-Person Meetings: Each week students will work on a provided writing prompt where they will learn to independently organize and express elaborated ideas in an effective essay. Students will receive explicit instruction and guidance throughout the writing process as they plan, outline, draft and edit their pieces.
Student-Centered Learning: Lessons will be tailored to meet students where they are in the writing curriculum.

Students will improve their essay-writing skills, including how to organize their essay as well as identify and understand the main parts of an essay. Students will gain confidence in the writing process. Students will gain important writing skills such as organization, writing a thesis, creating an outline, citing sources, and more.

I have been a public school teacher in Massachusetts for over ten years. I have taught English to both middle school and high school students of all levels, and I have also taught special education courses during the summer.  I have been trained in executive function through the Landmark School courses and am Orton-Gillingham trained through the Orton-Gillingham Academy.

Homework Offered
Complete outlines, drafts or brainstorming on your own when needed and if possible.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students will receive a rubric for their essays.
Grades Offered
Students will receive graded essays upon request.
