We will meet five times a week for 90 minutes a day to cover all the core curriculum and more. We are excited to offer this pod opportunity to really get to know our families and learners. We will cover the standards for Pre-Algebra, Language Arts, US Civics, Middle School Chemistry, Spanish 101, Music Theory & Appreciation 101, and Personal Finance for your student over a full year. (January to December). *Social Studies: Middle School US Civics Key Ideas and Details: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RH.6-8.1 Cite specific textual evidence to support analysis of primary and secondary sources. We have certified educators, college professors, and native speakers of the foreign language to work with you to build the perfect core curriculum for your learners. Our Social Studies/History teacher has a masters in History and has been teaching AP Civics, AP US Government, AP Psychology, AP World History, and more for over 30 years. Our Spanish teacher is a native Spanish speaking teacher and has their Bachelor degree in Anthropology of Latin America along with a minor in English, they have been teaching for about 5 years now. Our Math and Science teacher is a certified middle school teacher who has taught for 10+ years. Our music teacher has been teaching for 10+ years and is an accomplished musician who loves to share music with others. Since we have multiple teachers we will focusing on one class a day, sometimes two classes in a day depending on the depth of the lessons. A calendar will be posted in the classroom to detail which class will be when.
Homework Offered
With this being core curriculum, there is the expectation that homework will be completed and submitted so that our teachers can assess and ensure we are getting our students to mastery level of these standards. Google Classroom will only be used during live class time, this is a place where learners can turn in work, get feedback from papers, etc.2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Assessments are a mixture of informal and formal, giving out letter grades from work turned in. If work is not turned in then letter grades can not be given or it is marked as a zero. Grading will be scaled depending on the age, grade of the learner, or individual learning goals made from discussions between parent and teacher(s).Grades Offered
- We will provide printouts and online fulfillable forms throughout the classes - For Math will need a graphing calculator or can use a free online graphing calculator like: https://www.mathway.com/Graph or https://www.desmos.com/calculator as an example - Google Classroom will only be used during live class time - When we do use Kahoot it is helpful, but not required, to have another deceive to see the questions easier. If not using another deceive must be able and have knowledge to split computer screen during class. Kahoot is updating their program to make this process easier, and this may not even be needed anymore.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
"Learners may be asked to use Google Suite products, such as Google Docs. Google terms of service requires users to be 13 years of age or older. If your learner is under the age of 13, please create an account for them using Family Link." Google Classroom will only be used during live class time

"American Chemical Society" by Jerry Cell, PhD, Patti Galvan, Jim Kessler, and Adam Boyd "DC" and "Marvel" Comic Books, Shakespeare, and Passages From: The Summer of the Swans, Storm Surprises Maine Students, An Inca City, Lost City: The Discovery of Machu Picchu, Empire in the Andes, TIME for Kids Magazine, and more. Scientific articles like: Sleep is good for your brain, Protecting the Clouded Leopard, and others. For Spanish we will be covering the basic terms and general culture, the focus of the Spanish class is learn to speak basic Spanish. This is taught from a native Spanish speaker.
