Students will develop writing skills and read comprehension skills while having fun
Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 8
Students will learn to read and write critically while learning history through historical fiction. Students will read the books- Fever 1793 and Wednesday Wars. In each class, students will be immersed in the time period whether it's Philadelphia in a new America or the late 1960s on Long Island in New York. In each class, students will watch a video related to the topic of the book, reading comprehension or writing skills. They will then review the book through conversation, comprehension...
Students will learn reading comprehension skills, improve vocabulary, learn about topic sentences, organizing essays, writing a thesis and conclusion and using textual evidence. Students will also learn about American History.
I have a Master's in Education with certification K-6 and certification in English (as a Second Language) in 6-12. I have a great passion for American History and cultural history and have researched many topics of U.S. History in great depth.
Homework Offered
Students will need to read chapters between classes which will be about a half hour to hour of reading.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students will receive a letter grade based on a written summary of the first book and an essay about the second book.Grades Offered
