Terry McMullen
New on Outschool
6 week course on pricing, costs, and profits designed for kids interested in business or starting their own business. We teach the same way they do at Harvard Business School, using the case method; making it dynamic, engaging, and fun.
Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner Level
The class will be six weeks long, following the course schedule below. Each class is 1 hour long and requires no prep beforehand. The students only need to bring themselves, a desire to learn about the business world, and a mindset that is ready to discuss, explore, and debate. We use the case method approach, meaning that each week students will receive a 1 page case write up of a business scenario and we will discuss and work through it live in class. This is not a lecture format. Students...
Students will receive an age appropriate introduction to business, become comfortable with basic business concepts, gain perspective on how businesses function, AND learn how to think critically, analyze problems, and communicate their viewpoints.
I received my MBA from Harvard Business School and studied the case method approach extensively, including teaching and writing cases. In addition I have worked in the business world for over 20 years in various roles including as a corporate strategist, entrepreneur, and CEO. I've worked at start-ups as well as companies as big as IBM. In addition I've taught at Kaplan Test prep and tutored elementary through high school for over 15 years. My current role is Founder and Lead Teacher at Streetwise Lab, a company that teaches MBA style business curriculum to middle school students across the US.
Homework Offered
Minimal homework will be assigned. At the end of each case class we will discuss an "Application Activity" that students can do after class to apply what they learned. These are meant to be exciting and inspiring activities, not something that will be formally graded.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
At the end of each class we will give students a short quiz to test them on the business topics learned. In addition each learner will receive a short written assessment of their performance in class, as well as their strengths and areas of development.Grades Offered
All material is provided digitally to the students. It is sourced from our proprietary curriculum, which has been taught to students and at schools across the US.
