In this program we will examine famous works of art and recreate them for the purposes of understanding the "HOW" throughout art history. We will develop our understanding of techniques by using the materials at our disposal. Through this process we will examine key art concepts and principals including but not limited to: composition, design, light, shadow, colour, contrast, proportion, focal point, storytelling and narrative, depth of field, and colour theory. With regular practice and participation in this class learners will come away with: Ability to examine and interpret art work created by others (great masters) Devise a stratagem for creating a master study Problem solve using art materials and techniques to create a desired effect Reflect upon their progress and help to set attainable goals. Most of all learners will gain valuable practice time exploring their techniques and art materials while broadening their visual arts vocabulary and understanding.
Sharon is a fine artist and illustrator who has been working in art related fields since 2002 and been developing and teaching art curriculum for young artists since 2006. Sharon is thrilled to be offering studio curriculum here on Outschool and has been helping to guide and inspire emerging artists for more than 4 years with her personalized and collaborative approach to online arts education.

Learners will want to have sketchbook and pencils(erasers) to start. Art materials should be discussed in further upon sign up so that the each class can be tailored to the materials that the learner has available. Common materials we may use include Paint (watercolour, gouache, acrylic, oil) Pencils (charcoal, graphite, coloured pencils) Pastels (oil or soft) Inks (dip pen, india, other) Markers (water or alcohol based) And more
Artwork from art history often is created in context that may not be suitable for all learners. The list of famous artwork will be carefully vetted and contain still life, landscapes, and portraits and will be tailored to the learner's age and interests.
This series will pull from Konemann published Art In Focus reference books that highlight individual artists including but not limited to: Van Gogh, Cezanne, Toulouse-Lautrec, DaVinci, etc Reference pulled from various online art institutes will be shared with the student for extended learning opportunities.
