In this ongoing class, students will learn to read with phonics and sight words. Students learn skills they need to read with visuals, chants, rhymes, digital flashcards, games, choral reading, songs, poems, and activities where they listen and repeat. Students learn best when they feel seen and when they clearly understand what to do during class. My teaching style is student-centric. Students will learn to read by practicing the 26 letters of the alphabet, short vowels, long vowels, common sight words (such as, not, my, yes), and word families (words ending in the same sound like -an, -all,-unk).
I'm an English teacher with over 10 years of experience. My education includes a Bachelor's degree in English and Master's in Teaching. I'm licensed to teach reading for grades K-12.
Homework Offered
After each class, optional homework activities to review the alphabet, vowels, letter of the week, sight word of the week , and word family of the week will be posted in the Outschool classroom. You may submit these to the teacher anytime for feedback.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
