In this course, students will learn how to find credible sources, why we conduct research, how to incorporate research into writing, and how to format a works cited page. In the first week, students will learn about why we conduct research and how to find credible sources. They will also learn which types of sources are not credible. Students will do the following upon completing the course: 1. Understand the purpose and goals of research 2. Understand how to find credible sources 3. Learn how to create full citations and a works cited page. 4. Learn how to format a paper in MLA 5. Learn how to use a full citation to create an in-text citation 6. Explain and understand the difference between a full citation and an in-text citation 7. Explain and understand the difference between a paraphrase and a direct quote. 8. Learn how to properly integrate quotes/research into writing. 9. Learn how to properly structure a paragraph that has integrated research.
Dr. Schmidt is a four-year university instructor who teaches reading and writing skills to all college students. She also has a PhD in Language and Literacy.
