Many of the standards learners will practice will be: Demonstrating one-to-one letter-sound correspondence by producing the primary sound or most frequent sound for each consonant. Applying grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. Reading common high-frequency words by sight. Blending and segmenting individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken one-syllable words. Blending and segmenting onsets and rimes of spoken words. Associating the long and short sounds with common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels. Identifying and naming all upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet. Demonstrating understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes). Distinguishing between similarly spelled words by identifying the sounds of the letters that differ.
