Introduction to chess

This is a one-time lesson where students will learn the basic rules and foundations of Chess, taught by Mr. Campbell, a credentialed public school educator. These foundations include: board orientation, board setup, the unique movements of each piece, how to play, and the ultimate goal of Chess- Checkmating your opponent!

Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
Beginner Level
Objective: Students will know how to setup a chess board independently, demonstrating a clear understanding of the initial arrangement of pieces on the board, and to play the game.
Success Criteria:
Students will be able to demonstrate the correct orientation of the board
Students will know how to arrange all 32 pieces correctly on the board
Students will be able to demonstrate how to move each of the pieces correctly 
Students will be able to demonstrate ways to checkmate their opponent 
I am a California Public School Educator (7 years experience). After playing and studying Chess for many years, as well as designing and implementing my own successful Chess Program at the school where I teach, I have become very knowledgeable in Chess. My strength is in my teaching style and my ability to deliver the content.
