This semester course will introduce the 3 divisions, 22 individual categories, and over 50 additional subcategories for the International Science and Engineering Fair. Each of the 22 sessions will feature a project to be completed.

What will be taught? Students will learn details of the Society for Science’s research competition. “Founded as Science Service in 1921, the Society for Science has been dedicated to expanding scientific literacy, access to STEM education and scientific research for more than 100 years. 1. Recall basic facts and concepts presented. 2. Explain ideas or concepts. 3. Use information learned to create a potential science fair project idea. 4. Draw connections among ideas-Organize steps to their science fair project idea. 5. Justify a stand or decision-Critique their educated guess about what will happen in the project. 6. Produce new or original work- Complete the sample science project provided in this class. Homework Offered
Students will pursue the single topic addressed in the class and complete the selected project. They may choose another project similar to the one selected by the teacher.2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Each week, students will be informally assessed on the strength of their selected science fair project from the previous class with respect to its ability to conform to the scientific method.Grades Offered
1. Each student is required to use a composition book as a logbook. 2. Two weeks before the scheduled course, a project title and supply list will be provided.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Parents will be asked to assist with any part of the project such as purchasing supplies with the student. However, the science fair project should be independently completed by the student.
