In this 4-week course, students will read "Inside Out & Back Again" by Thanhaa Lai and will analyze the themes of resilience and friendship through deep analysis of the text.

Students will analyze the book in order to practice and master comprehension and analysis skills: 📌Week 1: - Read Pages 1-69 - Annotating a text - Symbolism - Making Inferences 📌Week 2: - Read Pages 71-130 - Theme Analysis - Analyzing Text Evidence 📌Week 3: - Read Pages 131-197 - Quote Analysis - Conflict Analysis 📌Week 4: - Read Pages 198-260 - Hexagonal Analysis: making connections across the text. - Project & Reflection 📌Topics Throughout Class: - Vietnamese Immigration History -...
✔Students will be able to cite thorough text evidence to support an analysis of a text and inferences. ✔Students will be able to analyze a theme's development over the course of the text including its relationship to characters and conflict. ✔Students will be able to analyze how events in a story propel the action and reveals aspects of characters.
I have taught this novel to 8th grade students in public school for 6 years.
Homework Offered
Students will be responsible for reading at least 65 pages each week in order to stay on track with assignments.2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
There will be 2 comprehension checks so that we can determine if students are understanding the text as they are analyzing it. At the end of the novel, students will have a choice board with many different options on how they want to show what they have gained from this class.Grades Offered
🚩Formative: Weekly comprehension Checks, group discussions, literary analyses, writing assignments, and multimedia project presentations. 🚩Summative: Comprehensive final project and reflection.
