In the 1 time class students will listen to a reading of How to Catch an Elf, participate in reading discussions, and create their own elf trap.

Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2

Beginner Level

I will begin class by reading the story How to Catch an Elf by Adam Wallace. During the reading we will discuss the following
~ who the author is and what an author does
~ who the characters are and what is a character
~ where is the setting and what is a setting
~ I will ask students to make a hypothesis about what might happen next during the story
~ at the end I will ask students about what happened in the story to check reading comprehension. 

After the story we will complete the...

Students will have an understanding of what a character, setting, and author is. Students will also be able to recall events from a story as well as retell what happened. 

Students will embrace their creativity.

Students will need access to a printer, to print the assignments as well as either crayons, colored pencils, or markers. 

If students do not have a printer they can still participate in the class. They will not be able to color in the traps but they can participate in the discussion. 

If they have plain paper at home they can draw for the 2nd assignment.

We will be using the book below. Students do not need to purchase this book.
