How to Catch an Elf- 3rd-5th grade

In the 1 time class students will listen to a reading of How to Catch an Elf, participate in reading discussions, and create their own elf trap. This class is tailored for 3rd-5th graders. There is another class for younger grades.

I will begin class by reading the story How to Catch an Elf by Adam Wallace. During the reading we will discuss the following ~ who the author is and what an author does ~ who the characters are and what is a character ~ where is the setting and what is a setting ~ I will ask students to make a hypothesis about what might happen next during the story ~ at the end I will ask students about what happened in the story to check reading comprehension. After the story we will complete the story...
Students will have an understanding of what a character, setting, and author is. Students will also be able to recall events from a story as well as retell what happened. Students will work on writing. Students will embrace their creativity.

Students will need access to a printer, to print the assignments as well as either crayons, colored pencils, or markers, and a pencil. If students do not have a printer they can still participate in the class. They will need to write their answer on plain paper or lined paper.
