Class Experience
In each session, learners will paint a gnome. I will show them how to create gnomes very easily with circles and simple lines in a step-by-step easy-to-follow manner. The skills learned within this will serve learners in the future by giving them understanding of breaking down things they are looking at into lines and shapes, making them easier to sketch. Once we sketch our gnome we will paint them with watercolor paints. I will share techniques with water colors as we go along. Finally, we...
Learners will improve their understanding of sketching and usage of watercolor paints. They will learn how to use simple shapes we are all familiar with, such as circles, and simple lines to create objects. This skill is transferable to other things they may wish to sketch in the future and will also serve to provide learners interested in really diving into art skills they can build upon within sketching and watercolor techniques. I very much enjoy explaining...so kids will hear from me quite a big of dialog that helps them understand what we are doing, rather than just copying me. I enjoy helping others actually understand what it is we are doing so they will more readily transfer what they learn in class to other things they may go on to do.
I've been involved in art my entire life. My mom told me that I drew my first cat when I was just two years old and she said it was very good, too, for my age. I recall vividly studying from art books by the time I was six years old and I was in art classes in school all the way through high school and took more classes in college. I've studied various forms of art and worked with many mediums as well. Watercolor is a great place for young people to start and I still love it to this day, too!
Homework Offered
Assessments Offered
Learners are free to show off their works of art with the class if they want to, however, they are also free to not do so if they do not want to. Art is art and it can be many things. Each person has their own perspective in terms of what they find beautiful or attractive. I'm not there to say anyone did anything incorrectly. But I am there to share techniques and those do tend to improve with practice. Art is a journey and it should be fun at any stage along the way. Art can be a form of stress and anxiety relief. And that can help so many things for someone. It can help them do better in other areas of school and life. It can help them in their state of mind. If a learner is enjoying practicing art....well... to me they are doing something wonderful for themself. Within that, if a learner does want to know something that could help them achieve something in particular within their capabilities, then I will offer my best instruction to help them improve as they'd like to. If, however, they are happily content with however their work comes out, I'm perfectly happy with that too and, to me, they've done an amazing job.Grades Offered

I do request that learners keep their art in a positive vibe and theme. We have younger kids in class and all art should be happy and fun. If some learners like to make their art look spooky or scary, this might not be the best class for them unless they agree to keep things on the fun side within this class.
