Did you know it's possible to shape your child's taste in music? A study from Deezer, a global music streaming service, suggests that the ideal time to introduce a child to diverse music is before they turn ten. The research found that 82% of parents observed positive responses from their kids when exposed to new music at a young age....
1. Learners will develop an appreciation for diverse musical genres, recognizing the unique characteristics and cultural influences within each style. 2. Learners will understand the historical and societal contexts of various musical genres and how they've evolved over time. 3. Learners will recognize the musical characteristics and instruments that characterize a genre's signature sound. 4. Learners will perform various songs and rhythms from a range of musical genres. 5. Learners will be able to reflect on and describe their musical preferences using correct musical terminology.
Miss Suzanne is a licensed K-12 music teacher with a decade of experience teaching K-6 music in New Jersey’s public schools and as a private lesson teacher. In addition to her classroom experience, Miss Suzanne owns and operates her own music education business providing learning resources and ideas to other music educators.
Homework Offered
Each week learners can expect a weekly video lesson to be posted to the Outschool classroom on Monday at 12 PM EST. Your child will have the entire week to watch the video lesson and join in on discussions, interactive activities, virtual Q&A sessions, and reflection prompts posted throughout the week. Each week's tasks, including watching the video and participating in class activities, should take about an hour to complete. To make things flexible and self-paced, your child has one week to finish each task after it's posted. For instance, if a discussion prompt is posted on Talk About It Tuesday, your child should respond to the prompt by the following Tuesday.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Since this is an enrichment class, there will be no formal assessments. While there are no formal grades, parents can expect to receive two progress reports on their learner's engagement, class participation and overall progress in the class.Grades Offered

The curriculum and educational resources for this course has been developed independently by the instructor. The multimedia elements have been utilized to provide background to learners... -Excerpts from Instrument Recordings: These excerpts are selected to allow learners to familiarize themselves with the unique sounds of orchestral instruments. -YouTube Videos: Students will occasionally watch clips of YouTube videos which hold relevance to the lesson topic. Topics of videos may include performances of music genres or interviews with musicians, composers or musicologists who perform, analyze or write music for a specific genre. These videos are meant to provide understanding, appreciation and supplemental information about a certain genre. Any videos will be directly embedded into the weekly lessons within the classroom so learners are able to enjoy them without ads or leaving the Outschool platform.
