Beginner Level
Welcome, young detectives! In this exciting class, elementary students will embark on a creative journey to design their own classic detective game inspired by the timeless mystery game, Clue. Students will choose a theme such as pirates, medieval, or the ocean, and apply it to create unique locations, characters, and obstacles for their very own detective adventure. Throughout this project-based learning experience, students will enhance their skills in math, science, and language arts...
Mathematics: Develop skills in resource allocation for game creation. Apply mathematical concepts in calculating game scores and points. Utilize geometry and measurements for designing game elements. Science: Explore the scientific principles related to the chosen theme (e.g., marine biology for an ocean theme). Understand cause-and-effect relationships in the context of the game's storyline. Language Arts: Enhance storytelling and narrative skills by developing a compelling game plot. Strengthen communication skills through collaborative discussions and presentations. Practice descriptive writing for character backgrounds, locations, and obstacles.
I play many, many games with my family, online, and, on my mobile. Many, many games.
Homework Offered
While time will be allocated during class to work on the week's assignments, learners may need to complete the assignment between classes. Weeks 3 and 4 focus on the construction of all the materials needed for game play and may require additional time outside of class to finish.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
A certification of completion will be offered. If a student completes all aspects of the packet and the optional summary page, a grade may be provided.
Learners must have access to a printer to access the packet and templates. They will be provided in a pdf format in the classroom. Learners must bring their packet or a notebook with a pencil to every class. Gameboard: White or construction paper may be taped together for the desired size. Cardboard may also be used. Characters: These can be premade (legos, action figures) or can be made using whatever materials are available (paper, cardboard, poker chips, rocks). Cards: White, construction or card stock paper can be used to create the cards. They can be created on a computer and printed. They can be drawn or written. Additional supplies: markers, crayons, color pencils, tape, glue, scissors, card stock, cardboard, white paper, color paper, and any other general craft supplies. MINIMUM: Paper, tape, scissors, and something to write with.
The detective adventure story is based on the classic strategy game of Clue. This game involves finding who murdered the victim, what weapon they used, and the location. While the game will be discussed as an example, students will be encouraged to create non-lethal adventures for their own games.
