This class encourages creativity and self-expression, which may sometimes involve exploration of complex and mature themes in student writing. These can include but are not limited to topics such as mental health, social issues, family dynamics, and personal struggles.

While we respect artistic freedom, we also prioritize a safe and respectful environment for all students. Therefore, material deemed excessively graphic, explicit, or harmful will not be permitted.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁:

To foster an atmosphere of respect and sensitivity, we require all students to include content warnings on their work if it involves potentially triggering or sensitive subjects. This practice aims to prepare readers and respect their boundaries, allowing them to engage with the material at their own discretion.

Content warnings should be clear and placed at the beginning of the submitted work. They will be reviewed by the instructor for appropriateness.

𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿:

The teacher will monitor the content shared in the class and provide guidance on handling sensitive topics responsibly. They are also available to discuss any concerns that students or parents might have regarding course material.

In cases where sensitive topics are addressed, the teacher will ensure that discussions are handled with empathy and maturity, providing an educational perspective on the significance and impact of such themes in creative writing.

𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀!

-For everyone's safety, and to ensure an engaging and social experience, students are required to have working microphones and video for the entirety of this class, positioned such that we can both hear and see them. Please be sure to prepare your student for this requirement before class begins!

-Students are asked not to use filters or virtual backgrounds-- though if there is an important reason to use a virtual background, please just let me know ahead of time that your student will be using one (no questions asked!).

-Students will be asked to introduce themselves by sharing their name, pronoun, and a favorite book.
