Christmas traditions in general can be a sensitive topic due to religion and different cultures. We will be looking at Christmas traditions from a secular point of view, making sure to look at the traditions from multiple different perspectives around the world. Also, I know that sometimes Christmas discussions can be tricky due to talking about presents they want to receive, or have received, but I will keep this conversation focused on traditions in order to prevent this dilemma.
Students will receive a PDF packet each class with all of the information for class. There are readings and activities for Russia, as well as crafts. Also, students are given a PDF with a mini-book for Russia that they can create as well. The class packet is based on my first-hand accounts, and many primary and secondary sources especially depending on the country. Some of the main sources are: National Geographic National Geographic Kids www.history.com United Nations DW News Google Earth Google Maps Goode's World Atlas BBC Scholastic Books Flagpedia Kids World Travel Guide
