In this one-time class, we will discuss the meaning of Brave New World and read relevant excerpts from the book.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12

Intermediate Level

This class will be a conversation between me and the learner. The learner will be asked to give an overview of the story so far.

I will pose questions about the book to engage the learner to think and give their opinions on the key themes of the book and how they may relate to us today. The learner can also say what they like and dislike about the world that has been created in Brave New World.

We will read relevant passages from the book and pull out some of the key names mentioned such as...

Students will learn to think about a piece of literature, discuss its meanings and relate it to the lives we live today.

I have taught in primary and secondary schools in the UK and Belgium for 10 years. I have taught English online for 5 years.

Brave New World, pen and paper.

There are mentions in the book of a drug called Soma that takes a person away from their troubles, and promiscuity is encouraged in the novel. I will discuss entertainment and wanting to escape from emotions and difficulties, and I will not touch on the promiscuity at all. We will talk about family being destroyed, but not the specifics of promiscuity.
