1. Learners will develop a basic understanding of the orchestra's role in preserving classical compositions and shaping cultural heritage. 2. Learners will be able to identify and describe instruments in the strings family. 3. Learners will be able to identify and describe instruments in the woodwinds family. 4. Learners will be able to identify and describe instruments in the brass family. 5. Learners will be able to identify and describe instruments in the percussion family. 6. Learners will understand the role of composers and conductors within the orchestra setting. 7. Learners will understand the layout and organization of musicians within the orchestra. 8. Learners will develop an understanding of the cultural and social aspects of enjoying a live orchestral performance through appropriate audience behavior and etiquette.
Miss Suzanne is a licensed K-12 music teacher with a decade of experience teaching K-6 music in New Jersey’s public schools and as a private lesson teacher. In addition to her classroom experience, Miss Suzanne owns and operates her own music education business providing learning resources and ideas to other music educators.
Homework Offered
Each week learners can expect a weekly video lesson to be posted to the Outschool classroom on Monday at 12 PM EST. Your child will have the entire week to watch the video lesson and join in on discussions, interactive activities, virtual Q&A sessions, and reflection prompts posted throughout the week. Each week's tasks, including watching the video and participating in class activities, should take about an hour to complete. To make things flexible and self-paced, your child has one week to finish each task after it's posted. For instance, if a discussion prompt is posted on Talk About It Tuesday, your child should respond to the prompt by the following Tuesday.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Since this is an enrichment class, there will be no formal assessments. While there are no formal grades, parents can expect to receive two progress reports on their learner's engagement, class participation and overall progress in the class.Grades Offered

The multimedia elements have been utilized to provide background to learners... -Excerpts from Instrument Recordings: These excerpts are selected to allow learners to familiarize themselves with the unique sounds of orchestral instruments. -YouTube Videos: Students will occasionally watch YouTube videos which are relevant to the lesson topic. Topics of videos may include playing demonstrations of orchestral instruments or interviews with professional musicians, conductors or composers. These videos are meant to provide a glimpse into the symphony orchestra. Any videos will be directly embedded into the weekly lessons within the classroom so learners are able to enjoy them without ads or leaving the Outschool platform.
