In this fun holiday lesson, children (ages 6-9) will read "A CHRISTMAS PUPPY," a story about a child who wants a dog and a puppy who wants a home. Students will learn how to draw a Christmas puppy as part of this activity.

Let's celebrate the holidays as we read aloud a story, "A CHRISTMAS PUPPY," by Julie Connor.  We will talk about our favorite holiday traditions and everything we love about this ho-ho-happiest time of the year.  Learners will also learn easy steps to draw A CHRISTMAS PUPPY. 

Materials for the art activity include (1) a sheet of white paper, (2) a black marker, pen, or pencil, and (3) crayons or markers.

Learners will be able to:
1.  Define story vocabulary including jingle, ornament, reindeer, sparkle, twinkling
2.  Read aloud a holiday story, "A CHRISTMAS PUPPY."
3.  Identify details from a story they read aloud and listened to in class.
4.  Discuss favorite holiday traditions.
5.  Follow step-by-step instructions to draw A CHRISTMAS PUPPY.

I am a seasoned interactive teacher who uses fun, hands-on activities to learn new concepts and practice new skills.  I incorporate the creative arts into instructional experiences.  I design activities that appeal to learners’ unique learning styles.  I encourage discussion and offer opportunities for students to share their experiences and expertise with one another. 

My doctoral degree is in education. My teaching certifications include elementary education (K-8) as well as secondary (grades 7-12) communication arts, English, speech and theater, and science education. I have more than 30 years of teaching experience in traditional and online classrooms in rural, urban, and suburban schools.  As a student teaching supervisor, I equipped new teachers with creative interactive strategies I use as an instructor.

As a TED / school assembly speaker and a youth mental health consultant, I equip youth and adults with skills to talk about tough topics like communication skills, bullying, and tools to face life's challenges at school assemblies and conferences throughout the country. 
I empower youth with goal-setting strategies and peer leadership coaching. I equip teens with skills and tools to reach goals.  I am the author of an award-winning personal goal-setting book, Dreams to Action Trailblazer's Guide.

Scary content is not allowed in this class. We enjoy fun and laughter and holiday good cheer together!
Some parents may object to use of the word, "Christmas," in this class, but it is not referenced to discuss religion.  The word, "Christmas," is used to discuss the holiday.
