Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 8
In this FLEX Language Arts class, we will explore 4 key skills, practice the lesson content with fun challenges and activities, and learn how to apply this knowledge to reading and writing they may encounter in other school courses or in the real world. Each class, we will focus on one specific Language Arts skill. I will present a video lesson each week, teaching all about that week's new topic. We will explore examples together, then complete an activity to practice their new knowledge!...
Students will improve their understanding of 4 key Language Arts skills (Point of View, Descriptive Language/Imagery/Visualization, Non-Fiction Text Structures, Elements of Plot) and will be able to apply this knowledge through multiple methods.
I have been teaching middle school Reading and Language Arts for more than 19 years. I specialize in reading and vocabulary skills/strategies, teaching writing, and working with students at their own individual levels.
Homework Offered
Participation in the classroom is expected during/after each session. I will also be posting encouragement and tips throughout the week, and learners can interact with each other in the classroom as they share their work and complete challenges.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students will be informally assessed via their completed assignments/class interactions. I will offer feedback and suggested next steps.Grades Offered
Paper and pencil will be needed for this course. I would recommend a composition book so all notes/activities can stay together.
We will use YouTube, Flipgrid and Nearpod throughout the course. All sites will be accessible directly through the Outschool classroom. For Nearpod, learners will be given a code each week to access the lesson, and they will not need an individual account. Flipgrid will require a student account, and learners will be given a class code on the first day of class to connect to our group board. Please sign up at https://info.flip.com/, so your learner will be ready to begin. It's a very easy process, and I'll be glad to answer any questions you may have! Weekly video tutorials are housed on YouTube and will be linked in the classroom. Learners may also access the internet/YouTube to help with class challenges.
