Each week, learners will focus on studying and trying different chess openings.
Class Experience
In this private chess lesson, players work on different chess openings. Specifically designed for the intermediate and advanced player, each week the instructor will take a deep dive into different chess openings. Students will not play a full game in the lesson, but will get some playing time. These Private Chess lessons are ideal for students who play regularly, currently compete in tournaments, or are looking to compete in tournaments. Mr. Val is an avid chess player and cohost of a YouTube Channel dedicated to chess. He holds a Masters in Educational Psychology and a Bachelor's in English & Communications. He won the 2021 Philadelphia World Open U1800 and the 2021 Las Vegas National Open U1700. His blitz ranking is 2113. He has been teaching chess to children and adults for over 10 years. Mr. Nate grew up competing in local, state, and national chess tournaments. He has won about 50 trophies. In high school, he taught at after school chess clubs at multiple elementary schools. He has been tutoring young and tutored young chess players both online and in person for over 10 years. His current chess ranking is 1800. He remembers chess being an important part of his childhood and looks forward to helping learners discover the joys of playing chess both recreationally and competitively.

We do not provide written feedback to families regarding their students skill development. You are certainly welcome to email us questions about student participation, but we cannot save student scores. Having your own personal ChessKid.com account for use at home offers a good way for students to practice in between lessons and for parents to monitor their child's chess ranking.Grades Offered
Class must be taken using a computer or laptop. If students have access to two devices they may wish to use a tablet or smart phone to be in our Outschool Zoom room and their computer or laptop for coding in Scratch.
